Ludwig FISCHER, was born on December 31, 1868 in Jungbunzlau Bohemia (then Austria-Hungary, now the Czech Republic). He was a Jewish shopkeeper, a partner in the FISCHER & ANINGER store at 7-9 Sigmund Haffnergasse in Salzburg. His wife, Emilie, née Taussig, was born on August 27, 1885 in Rakonitz Bohemia (then Austria-Hungary, now the Czech Republic). She was the sister of Klara ANINGER who was married to Heinrich ANINGER, Ludwig’s partner in FISCHER & ANINGER.
The FISCHERs’ apartment was seized in June 1938 and turned over to the Regional Office for the People’s Health and the Doctor’s Insurance Association. They fled to Vienna and lived at 2 Rembrandtstraße in the 2nd District. Along with their Salzburg neighbors the ANINGERs and SPIEGELs who had also been driven out of Salzburg, the FISCHERs were deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp on July 14, 1942.
On December 26, 1943 the 58 year old Emilie FISCHER was murdered at Thereienstadt, as was her 75 year old husband Ludwig FISCHER on April 26, 1944. Their son Walter, who had been born in Salzburg in 1908, died in 1931 and his grave is located in the Jewish cemetery in Salzburg-Aigen.
