Rosemarie DAXER was an illegitimate child born in Salzburg on February 1, 1942. Two weeks after her premature birth she was brought to the »female servant’s home« at 8 Griesgasse (formerly called the Marianum).
Rosemarie’s mother was a 20 year old house and kitchen maid who lived with her employers (who changed frequently). At the request of the Reich Governor of Salzburg (Dr. Gustav Adolf Scheel, MD) Rosemarie was sent to the »Vienna City Psychiatric Hospital for Children« (notorious as »Am Spiegelgrund«). On July 12, 1943 she was admitted to Pavilion 15 / I (the death Pavilion) and examined by Dr. Ernst Illing. On August 21, 1943 she was registered with the »Reich council for the scientific recording of serious inherited-and congenital diseases« (Dr. Marianne Tuerk) and at 6:30 p.m. on August 21, 1943 the death of the 1 ½-year-old child Rosemarie was certified with »pneumonia« listed as the official cause of death.
In reality the malnourished child was given a lethal dose of Veronal or Luminal (both barbiturates) (see Waltraud Haeupl: »The murdered children from Am Spiegelgrund: Memorial documentation for the victims of the Nazi child euthanasia in Vienna«, Vienna, 2006, p. 90) (in German).
