Nearly 230 people were detained in the »gypsy camp« at Schwarzgrabenweg in Maxglan/Leopoldskron Moos.

At the beginning of April 1943 nearly 160 Sinti, including 18 children born in Salzburg were deported from here to Auschwitz-Birkenau: death by gas, starvation, disease or the experiments of the physician Dr. Josef Mengele.

BAUMANN Agathe, born on 28 November 1941 in Salzburg, daughter of Amelia Baumann and Mathias Krems, was murdered in Auschwitz on 12 May 1943.

BAUMANN Frieda, born on 17 August 1939 in Salzburg, daughter of Amelia Baumann and Mathias Krems, was murdered in Auschwitz on 31 October 1943.

EBERLE Anton, born on 16 July 1940 in Salzburg, the son of Berta Eberle and Josef Schoepf, was murdered in Auschwitz on 23 May 1943.

EBERLE Gustav, born on 16 December 1941 in Salzburg, was deported with his grandparents, Benedict and Gertraud EBERLE, his parents Berta EBERLE and Josef SCHOEPF and with his siblings Ludwig, Franziska Wilhelmine and Anton to Auschwitz-Birkenau, where they were all murdered on 23 April 1943.

HERZENBERGER Agathe, born on 2 October 1941 in Salzburg, daughter of Therese Herzenberger was murdered in Auschwitz on 21 July 1943.

KERNDLBACHER Maria, born on 1 September 1940 in the Maxglan / Leopoldskron Moos »gypsy camp«, murdered in Auschwitz on 8 April 1944.

KREMS Antonia, born on 13 November 1942 in the Maxglan / Leopoldskron Moos »gypsy camp«, murdered in Auschwitz 3 June 1943.

KREMS Josef, born on 30 July 1941 in Salzburg, the son of Anna Krems and Konrad Bernart, was murdered in Auschwitz in 1944.

KREMS Juliana, born on 26 April 1940 in Salzburg, daughter of Rosina and Jakob Krems, murdered in Auschwitz on 3 September 1943.

KUGLER Katharina, born on 5 February 1941 in Salzburg, was deported with her grandmother Therese KUGLER, her parents, Maria KUGLER and Walter KREMS and her siblings Alois, Anna and Kreszentia to Auschwitz-Birkenau, where they were all murdered on 15 October 1943.

LEIMBERGER Stefan, born on 30 January 1940 in Salzburg, the second child of Barbara and Joseph LEIMBERGER, was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau, and murdered in December 1943.

Stefan’s sister Anna died in 1942, before the deportation, in Salzburg. The fate of the parents is still unknown.

LICHTENBERGER Helmuth, born on 9 July 1941 in Salzburg, the son of Rosalia and Stefan LICHTENBERGER, was murdered in Auschwitz on 19 April 1943.

LUTZ Alban, born on 28 November 1940 in Salzburg, the son of Anna and Johann Lutz, was murdered in Auschwitz on 3 July 1943.

RAIMINIUS Engelbert, born on 7 February 1942 in Salzburg, and his older brother Wilhelm RAIMINIUS, born on 7 July 1940 in Salzburg were, with their parents, Maria RAIMINIUS and Karl EBERLE and eight siblings, children from previous partnerships of the parents, deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau, where they were murdered on 4 November 1943 and 16 November 1943. From this family the father, Karl EBERLE, survived, returning to Salzburg and dieing here in 1983.

REINHARDT Jakob, born on 3 March 1941 in Salzburg, the son of Wilhelmina Reinhardt, was murdered in Auschwitz on 19 May 1943.

REINHARDT Walter, born on 26 October 1942 in Salzburg, was deported with his mother, Wilhelmina REINHARDT to Auschwitz-Birkenau, where they were murdered on 6 May 1943.

Walter’s father, Charles WINTER was already at the birth of his son in Mauthausen concentration camp – no survivors.
